Detox Diaries

In today’s blog I aim to provide you with the ultimate university unwind coming towards the wonderful weekend. You’ve conquered yet again another week of lectures, deadlines and late night studies, which leads to you deserving a round of applause - and perhaps a long awaited nap. Life as a student can leave your schedule feeling jam packed, juggling your degree, a social life and maybe a part-time job. It is normal come Friday to feel a little burnt out, however this draining feeling should not control your whole mood for the weekend, so why not take some time to reset and recharge!

Here are a few simple ways in which you can de-stress and introduce a little ✨glow✨ back into your weekend:

Create a ‘mini reset’ routine

Giving yourself the spa-like treatments you deserve is the first step to switching off for the weekend. A good start involves a clean, cosy space with plenty of blankets, low lights and a fresh smelling candle. Pop your favourite playlist/podcast on in the background and make yourself your favourite drink, whether it be a cup of tea/coffee, something fruity or even a cocktail! Use a hydrating face mask and chill, a budgeting tip would be making your own DIY face mask. This can be done using only two ingredients, honey and oats, which works wonders for tired skin.

Have a ‘digital detox’

We all know that as a society, we use our mobile phones for almost everything. However, a long week of screens being used for uni work and endless scrolling means that our minds are due a break. It is important we give ourselves some time to unplug and occupy ourselves another way, whether it be going for a walk, spending some time with family and friends or finding a new hobby. This is difficult at first but the mental clarity you will feel is so worth it. One of my favourite ways to detox in the lighter evenings after university is to go out for a walk, timing it perfectly with the sunset, to allow for that scenic, peaceful feeling.

Romanticise the little things

One thing that I enjoy that helps me feel relaxed on my day off is gathering my favourite snacks, putting on my cosiest pyjamas and watching my comfort show in warm lighting wrapped up in my fluffiest blankets. As the weekends are all about winding down and finding joy in the little moments.

Life as a student can be very overwhelming in the beginning, adjusting to a new routine or simply trying to get back into a previous one. So this weekend make sure to do at least one small thing that you know makes you happy and remind yourself that you are doing your best💕
